La plume de ma tante! Del’s done a phone interview to celebrate the release of his autobiography He Who Dares.
Here’s a bit of it:
Del Boy: Au revoir.
M: Yes… so tell me, why did you decide to write your life story?
DB: It all started when the bird at Ebury Publishing got in touch and asked me if I’d ever considered writing my life story.
M: And what did you say?
DB: I said yes, many, many times. It’s just what with my having always been a man of action, I’d never found the time to sit down and have a proper crack at it. But now that I’m semi-retired, I thought: Yeah, why not? I’ve lived a rich and eventful life, why not share that with the world for a decent cut of the profits? Rodney, my younger brother, and some-time financial adviser, tried to put me off the idea, he’s always doing that, but by then it was too late. I’d been struck by the author bug. And from that day to this I’ve done pretty much nothing else but write: poems – well, limericks – short stories, longer stories, shopping lists, betting slips. I just have this deep, burning need to express myself. And the really great thing, now that I’m not as lively on my feet as I used to be, is that I can do it all sitting on my arse.

We’re delighted that He Who Dares, the autobiography of Derek ‘Del Boy’ Trotter, has been published.
Ebury snapped up the rights to the life-story of one of Britain’s best-loved entrepreneurs, which has been published under the newly created imprint Peckham Press.
“The buzz the book has created has been off the hook!” says Peckham Press press officer Damien Trotter. “My old man’s mate Trigger, one of the first to see the first draft, can’t recommend it highly enough, and he can’t even read. That’s how good it is!”
“So next time you pop into Waterstones, forget your Lee Childs and your JFK Rowlings, this is the only book you’ll need.”

There have been some stories in the press today suggesting that John Sullivan’s comedy series Citizen Smith could be returning to television. This is not the case.
“These stories are news to us – and we own the rights to the series,” says Shazam Productions’ Jim Sullivan. “It’s not the first time that people have suggested bringing the series back but that is not something we would want to do.
“Every episode of Citizen Smith was written by Dad – all the lines, ideas and plots were his. As we have said about Only Fools and Horses, the show only ever had one writer and it is going to stay that way.”
It is with great sadness that we have learned of the death of Roy Heather.
Roy was a lovely man and an important and much-valued member of the Only Fools and Horses team.
“We are very saddened to hear the news of the death of Roy Heather,” says Jim Sullivan. “Our thoughts and condolences go out to his family and friends.”
Shazam Productions is pleased to be able to confirm that football legend David Beckham will be appearing in the forthcoming Only Fools and Horses sketch for Sport Relief.
David will appear alongside David Jason and Nicholas Lyndhurst in the short sketch. Written by Jim Sullivan and Dan Sullivan, the one-off sketch includes unused material written by their father John Sullivan OBE, who created and wrote every episode of the series.
“David Beckham got in touch back in September last year saying he is a big fan of Only Fools and wondering if there was a possibility of doing something together for Sport Relief 2014,” says Jim Sullivan.
“Since Dad passed away back in April 2011 we have been asked a few times whether we’d be interested in writing any new material for Only Fools and we have always said no, our intention being to protect the work and not to attempt adding to it.
“However, Sport Relief being such a worthy cause, and with the opportunity to help raise a lot of money, we felt things were different this time, and we also knew that Dad would approve.”
The sketch will be broadcast on BBC One as part of Sport Relief in March. For more details about Sport Relief please click here.
It is with great sadness that we have learned of the death of Roger Lloyd-Pack.
Roger was a very skilled and accomplished actor, a true gentleman and much-loved member of the Only Fools and Horses team and his portrayal of the character of Trigger was a vital component to the success of Only Fools.
Jim Sullivan says: “Our family is deeply saddened to hear that Roger Lloyd-Pack has died. He was a very talented and lovely man and he will be greatly missed. Our thoughts are with his family.”
We’ve had lots of interest in the short Only Fools and Horses Sport Relief sketch over the past few days but neither Jim Sullivan or Dan Sullivan will be making any further comments about it at present. The BBC will confirm further details of the sketch and Sport Relief closer to its transmission in March here.
Del Boy and Rodney to return for a one-off Only Fools and Horses sketch for Sport Relief
Actors David Jason and Nicholas Lyndhurst will reprise their roles as Del and Rodney in a short sketch written by Jim Sullivan and Dan Sullivan which includes previously unused material written by their father John Sullivan OBE, who created and wrote every episode of the series.
Jim Sullivan says: “Since Dad passed away back in April 2011 we have been asked a few times whether we’d be interested in writing any new material for Only Fools and we have always said no, our intention being to protect the work and not to attempt adding to it.
“However, Sport Relief being such a worthy cause, and with the opportunity to help raise a lot of money, we felt things were different this time, and we also knew that Dad would approve.
“So we put together a sketch, incorporating some of Dad’s old notes – bits of dialogue for the show that he never found a place for – and, thankfully, the response was positive and everyone got behind it.
“Working on the sketch has been a lot of fun, but also quite daunting. The characters are so well loved, but we do feel we know and care for them enough to give them back their voices just this once.
“And we would like to make it clear that it is just this once, and that we are not, and never have been, looking to write any new episodes. There was only ever one writer of Only Fools and Horses, and it is going to stay that way.”
